Nine anglers fished the Civil Service Regional Boat angling qualifier today on the Upholder out of Amble, skippered by Dave. The sea was lumpy with big swells and this coupled to dirty water meant it was hard going all day. We fish a points based system which rewards the angler who catches different species of fish, however this was not a factor today as nearly all the fish were codling.
Overall there were 61 cod, 2 wrasse, 2 coalfish, 1 pollack & 1 pouting with the 3 leading anglers (who will represent the area at the National final in Weymouth) being;
C Wilkinson, Blyth with 16 cod, 1 pollack
J Cuthbert, Darlington with 7 cod, 1 coalfish, 1 pouting
M Chapman, Newcastle with 8 cod, 1 coalfish.
Most of the winners fish were caught on straight lug worm with a few on blue shads.
Dave covered a lot of ground to help us achieve our total and I'd like extend our appreciation for his efforts on the day.
Cheers DaveMcK
