  • Catch Report...The Jester 20.05.2013

I hate fog ...and it was thick this morning at 9.00 when I went down the marina, so after a chat with Allan.. (the local boat builder) ...I went back home, had a sarnie...and pondered what to do .... at 11.30 I thought what the hell and went back down.... still foggy but not quite as bad..

I only had an hour and a half before the dock gate shut so it was a quick dash in a choppy sea to the nearest wreck. The drift was quick at 1.5 - 2.0 knots I like my orange toys and lost a few rigs to the wreck, so i put on one of my only 2 orange shads ...a few drifts and nowt ....I lost the 2 orange shads , so put a blue shad on.....guess what...fish straight away ....then another .....dropped 2 off .... then it was time to come in....didn't want to get locked out....
I wish i'd fished blue from the start, I think it might have been a different story...
I gave 2 filletts to Allan for his tea, and a seagull tried to take off with mine and the carrier bag they were in after I left it on the pontoon, luckily it picked the carrier bag up upside down and the fish fell out...

An enjoyable 2 hours out.... and me and The Local Boat Builder are having fish n chips for tea tonight..

Nice fish Chris. Excuse the ignorance of a landlubber, but do they close the gates due to the tide? If so, why don't they dredge it so that it is deep enough. Or am I just being silly?

The gates were open 7 hours today Parrot.....

Yes Mark they shut due to the tide levels dunno why they don't drege it, but it doesn't bother me anyway, 10 mins after leaving the house i'm on the boat, so its worth putting up with the niggles..

Pretty lumpy Dave, with a few nice rollers as well, but the further out it got better. It was also murky till about 3 miles...

I doubt they could afford the price of fresh cod fillets...

Well done Chris. The fish seem to be arriving at last, just a shame the bad weather has come with them.
