  • NE Tope

Had my first report of a tope being hooked here in the NE, yesterday. The reports from Bridlington say they have been few and far between.

The tope at whitby took a shad on the retrieve, not ideal gear for them , and gave the angler some fun before biting off. A porgie was also hooked and lost last weds so if anyone is planning to have a go for them now is the time to start as it looks like they have made it this far north at last.

I have a few trips arranged for this week so we could be in for some fun. If these reports are anything to go by.

      Hi Jason.
I have trips planned for the 1/2/3 august from Whitby. The 1st is full but you would be welcome to join us on the 2nd as there are 3 places left.
We will be going out this week so watch out for the reports on here. Hopefully we will catch something worth posting

          Jason,
Read the catch reports and if you are free next week there are three places spare on weds to try it for yourself. All the gear is supplied as its a bit specialised.

          Cheers

The Tope are very late making an appearance off Brid this year there was a few earlier in the year then nothing. Hopefully these fish will appear on the inshore marks soon although looking at the Whitby captures perhaps they are just further off in deeper waters? Think I\'ll have to have a look and mayby try for a porgie aswell

                Hi topecatcher,
We were certainly well off shore and one day had plenty of tope around. The last visit to the same mark we failed to contact any tope at all. So who knows where they are. The final tally for the porgies was 6 runs, 4 hook ups and 3 landed. Not bad for three days fishing.

Its certainly worth giving it a go for them.

                Cheers
                Dave.

                          nice one dave,

i\'ve found a mark off dunbar than seems to fit the bill for a porgie mark.

it\'s similar to the description of \"the wall\" mark off whitby

a sheer wall from 215 feet up to 140 feet, all reef only about 1/2 a mile from a huge wreck, and only 7 miles out.

still has to be a nice day for us to try it, soon hopefully

                            Cheers Norman

Still trying to find the time to have a go after the porgies (and swordfish lol) seems that the weather might beat me to it though! Had one attempt this year but never caught out.
