They aren't sticking, just the finish is poor, I'm sure it's cos it's a totally sealed chamber apart from the pouring spout. I've notice the UK Hooks CNC moulds have a few small vent holes.

If I block the air intake of my gas ring I get a good yellow flame that should be the same as using a candle?

Sean, how much bees wax would I add to say a 20lb pan of lead?

Not sure why I'm worried about a fine finish anyway, don't suppose the fish will complain

    Cheers chaps!
    Cheers, Keith.

Keith i used to add about a big sugar lump size for each melt so i suppose it was about the same

I used to buy a block of pure from ebay its now about £6 + free postage for a 1 lb block which would last you a couple of years

        Hope this helps

          I am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking

Is it safe to add wax to molten lead?

Considering 1 vent that joins the pouring spout.

            Cheers!
            Cheers, Keith.

lol aye the average life of a pirk is about 15mins so i dont suppose the surface finish needs to be calibrated ....

Yeah that should do the trick (or just bruise the faces a little that'll produce an air gap ) .... no only kidding

GET ANOTHER ONE MADE WITH VENTS !
You dont use pirks anyway so dont worry about the finish i`m sure it will pass the skippers inspection
                          Cheers Bert

I'm sure it will once he's fitted the pins

Sadly MK.II is not an option, we are talking 4 figures

                              Hi Keith

Its just melts and burns off but when you add the little bit just look at the surface of the lead and you will be amazed

Wow! see what you mean Sean, it doesn't last long though and didn't make any noticeable difference to the pirks.

Tried opening up the joint with 0.006" shims and that made no difference either

Now thinking a bigger pouring hole might help.

If that fails I'm just gonna call it the fish scale effect

There are parts of the pirks that have a mirror like finish similar to that of the mould, they would be something to behold if they were like that all over.
                                Cheers, Keith.
