  • Its a nice day......but....

Reports say there's nothing getting caught....

    Do you.....

A.....Forget about the boat and do something else...

B.....Get out there and give it a go, as being afloat and chilling out isnt all about being guaranteed fish....

C.....Do some jobs on the boat

For me it would be B followed by C....

Algae bloom, poor results, fuel prices all come into play, but if the wrecks arent fishing, for me its just as good anchoring up half a mile out on rough ground dropping a bait over the side and putting my feet up..

Wreck fishing is great....no doubt about it, but for me me owning a boat opens up a host of different fishing situations that can be taken advantage of all year round.....

Whats your opinion......all year round....or wrecking only for 5 months...

If the sea is flat i would be out a mile drifting on hard ground looking for a cod. You have to go by the weather-next few weeks might be rough.

For me its wrecking or nothing, dont have the interest in anchoring up as find it sooooooooo boring and rough ground fishing fun for a hour or two but then get bored of that.

Loads of people go on about it and many know i have my opinion and stick by it...boat owning for me is only good if i am out and catching fish...nice days at sea just dont do it for me with out fish...in short no fish makes me a unhappy boy. I can take a couple of trips in a row getting a tan but no or few fish then it becomes apain.

Starting next weekend thou regardless how the fishing is i will be out twice a week at least weather willing, last year of Stingray so want to send her off with a flurish of big fish

p.s report from the cann today from a mates boat...5hrs 1 pouting between 2 people and sea not nice.

All depends on work really but still like the Ocqueteau 625 and i am happy with the Arvors but most of the new Arvors come with the VW engine and i wont touch one of them, rather the volvo penta, Nanni or Marinna engine. I may have a year or two away from boat owning, depends how this season goes as the "love" for it all but vanished last season with weather and lack of anything worth talking about, as i said above if the wrecks are dead or over fished then i wont be bothering with any other form of sea fishing, already sold all but 1 of my shore rods....when you have been to Norway you realise how poor our fishing is and i can have 3 weeks solid (or 21 days afloat) fishing every year for the price of owning a boat.

I guess the charters will notice it more than myself but finding wrecks our days that dont have a que of boats on them or have been hammered the days before with out going 15+ off shore is becoming harder every year.

Still got my hopes up for a good season thou mackerel being landed in Luce bay, Oban and Crinnan now so we just need them to hit our shore and fire the food chain away

Just being out on the water is agood day out, catching fish to me is a bonus.
The banter between the lads down the marina is cracking [SEAHAM] so its not a bad day just because i didnt catch fish.

I'm the same Allan, when i was beach fishing i just liked being out, even when i blanked. Having a boat sat in the marina seems a waste to me, when it could be getting used for any type of boat fishing, not because of the financial side but simply because its there to get pleasure from, but at the end of the day its each to their own.

Never thought i'd see the day Richy when you would be saying you might take a couple of years out from boat fishing...

Hopefully it wont be long and the catch report section will be bustin'

If i had a boat in the marina and was paying that sort of money to have it there i would be out every break in the weather wrecking, uptiding drifting the lot not like northeast1 how can you say uptiding is boring fishing is fishing it don't matter how you catch them on what bait etc its just getting out there and trying to find the best method to outwit the fish

Chris. "A" worked for me last week, bathroom re-modeled with new basin and toilet, then new shower cubicle, re-tiling, and lots of brownie points.

Done "B" an all. Went out on Saturday, fishing poor, but better out than "not"

"C" made a filleting table to use if the fish ever turn up

I can understand Richies frustration, the excitement of arriving at a wreck, especially a one that doesn't get hammered, the first drift over, wondering if there's fish ready to take your twin tail or not, and not finding satisfaction in bait fishing hard ground for mediocre size fish, especially after Norway, but hey, everyone to their own. Me, I just love to get out, messing about in a boat for a couple of hours, catching a few fish which I just give away anyway. I'll do it as long as I can and able.

See yous out there again soon, tight lines everybody.

                    A,B and C, you've been busy....

You must need a calculator to tot up all the brownie points youve earned Arthur....

Same for me...better out than not...even for a couple of hours....

Chris, personally I think your right. I love just getting out there regardless how the fishing is going. Don't get me wrong catching is what we go out there for, but there is nothing better than getting away from it all and chilling for a few ours at sea. Putting a rod over and putting my feet up works for me pal.

                          Hi Richie

I am suprised about you thinking of getting rid of the boat, afer the times you have been out and had the fish, especially taking your Mum out and seeing her catch fish none of that would of been possible and them pictures are pricless to you and your family. if you went on charters or just to Norway none of that would of been possible
I hope you feel better soon as the fish start comming as it has been a very long winter.

For me i have been doing my sums and it looks like a bigger boat is on the forecast possibly a 6.5/7mt boat just got to let mine go and find the new one.

the way i read it rich has been thinking of replacing his boat for some time.whilst there is much to be said for the freedom/satisfaction of having your own vessel, where you can pick who sails with you, despite all the costs incurred.sadly with charters its a bit of a lottery, but generally not so bad

i struggle to understand why he and his family could not catch fish/take pictures on someone elses vessel
