Had a few of these, and keep loosing them, Galvanized folding anchors, at about £25.00 a pop it's getting a little expensive, I have been using a lump of concrete as a sort of drag/snag attempt and I'v managed to loose a few of them aswell, plus its canny heavy, I have been told that you can tie one of the folding ones from the ring on the bottom and when you pull it in the legs/arms collapse and you wont loose it, How do you tie one ??? ca'nt work it out, cheers

This might help to explain an anchor "trip" from a thread on Whitby Sea Anglers
The post is pointed at a Kayak but the same applies for all small boats, just maybe the size of anchor you use may change

hope it helped

Have a read here:
Boat Angling Hints and Tips: Boat Handling
"There is an easy way to make sure you don't lose your anchor, by rigging it to "trip". This involves shackling the chain to the "wrong" end of the anchor, and making a weak link connection to the "right" end of the anchor. The weak link can be a cable tie, or a few turns of cord."Cheers, Keith.

You can make a grapnel type anchor out of steel bar or rebar. Weld four bars to give the hook shape, or bend two bars in half and slide them into a length of metal tube, before bending the four ends into a hook shapes.
If you use 8 or 10mm bar it is strong enough to hold a small boat and weak enough that if it gets stuck on the rocks it can be bent straight with a strong pull to release it. It’s ideal for the ground you fish off St Mary’s. I’d still take a big anchor and chain for emergencies as well though.

an alternative Idea !!!!
I do have a bit of a mad idea on the same lines,,, But I ca'nt weld to save my life, but hears an alternative , An empty 3ltr bottle of Cider, and some of those steel rods the lads use to close down roads, the ones with the red tape around them, stopping you from walking on wet concrete ect ..... just borrow one just after closing time, no one will spot you I can almost guarantee it, just dont get caught . cut them down to say 10/15 inch, insert them through the base of the bottle, loop a bit of rope around one of them, fill them full of concrete,/cement and the bits of lead we all have kicking around, half made sinkers things like that, give it a day or to, to go off and a cheeeepy anchor, I think ? If you loose it just drink another 3ltrs of cider/ beer / lager or what ever and do it again,....Or you can have a bloody good session get through 5 or 6 bottles, (I suggest you take the next day off) and do a few in one go, If you loose one or two, so what , go and get p1553d again and knock a few more off,I think it would work,, then again their might be a few flaws in it ,,, always open to a good Idea.... Cheers,,,, ps I only have a 12ft boat, and I think one of them would hold her, anything larger I would go for a 5ltr bottleTich
