As the new season is here... somewhere behind the clouds and snow the water patrol at Sunderland is starting up again this season.
I'll be out tomorrow morning as the first shift of this season.. yes not really the best day for it so I would guess nothing much happening tomorrow apart from freezing my nads off!
It went ok last season even though it was just a pilot scheme.. we got involved in plenty, from helping out the RNLI, helping out the yacht club, helping recover stolen motorbikes, shootings (yes really), telling people off for having fun (sorry) to cleaning up the river a fair old bit (plenty of trees floating down we sorted).
The patrol will be there for the same reasons as before, mainly to stop people going 40 knots up and down the river, helping out where needed (RNLI, police, stranded boats etc etc) and hopefully not getting in every ones face too much.
I know some people didn't like the idea and some did.. regardless though the patrol did a lot of good things last season so hopefully it will do some good again, just need the weather to get a bit better!
