Just bought a lowrance elite 4 chart plotter as recently mentioned, had to order a navionics gold card at £170! I've just been reading earlier post from last year and somebody mentioned that if you have an up to date gps/chart plotter it will have positions of wrecks already installed, not received card yet and new to the systems so if anybody could let me know that would b much appreciated, chris

I don’t know about the Navionics but, most charts show the location and depth of wrecks. You’ll need to have scan around the charts to find the wreck symbols that usually look like +++
Once you’ve found the symbol, then you’ll need to motor over the area, checking your sounder to see if there is much of the wreck left and to get an idea of the exact location and orientation.
A year’s subscription to WRECK WRAK EPAVE WRACK PECIO is £25 well spent.

Other charts will have a dotted circle around the area of the wreck with a number showing the depth in the middle. Here's an example from Free Topo Maps - Topographic Maps of the USA - MyTopo Mapserver
The wrecks underlined with the [ sign have had their depth confirmed by a survey boat sweeping them with a wire, so are pretty much guaranteed to be real and not just a few small broken remains.

Hi chris, if you have an iPhone or ipad there's a navionics app with the same charts as your card, it also shows you where you are on the chart just li,e your plotter , it's worth having for planning trips etc from the comfort of your armchair._____________

get yourself a twin frequency sounder 45' and 8' transducers in deep water you can pick a wreck up on the 45 and home in on it with the 8 then take the numbers a 20 deg plus side-lobes is 60 deg that's why you can mark the wreck and you are no where near it and miss it on the drift i used to run with two sounders the wreck would mark on the 45 then appear on the 8 by doing a few drifts you could determine which way it is lying its all practice once you get used to your gear you get a mental picture of what's going on, best thing I had was a Westmar scanning sonar on to a colour tv, motor scanning 15 degs port to starboard 45 degs ahead once you marked something just keep knocking the tilt down till you were at 90 degs and you were bang ontop then you could watch your drift magicLast edited by Joe-m; 25-02-2013, 09:43 AM.

It's exactly the same chart as in your plotter, I thought about putting the iPad on a mount in the cockpit of the boat so I could see where I was in relation to a wreck but decided against it as I manage by looking through the open doors at the plotter. It would have ended up broken, drowned or covered in fish guts
I had navionics charts on my last plotter , a raymarine, it was easy to use , I expect your lowrance will be just as easy_____________
