Alright lads, just wondering if there is anyone who could help us out. Me and my pal have fished for years from shore and thought it was time to push the boat out(sorry for the pun) and get our first boat. We are pretty new at the boat game and are looking for any advice anyone could have. We are launching from cullercoats and wondered if it the sand is ok to drive on with a van. We have just converted a 15 foot boat into a canny little fishing boat and wondered if it was worth going out over the next few weeks, if we get a break in the weather. If you see us please have a bit crack with us we would take any advice given. Boat name Mister Watson, brown and white small craft.

Welcome to the forum mate Look forward to the catch reports, and i'm sure some of the lads who fish up that way will help you out... If you're launching from Cullercoats have a look at an earlier post by Canman about the neighbours trying to stop the parking by boat owners, it might be of interest to you...
Dont see why you shouldnt get out as long as the weather is ok, and you are best off using bait at this time of year.....Good Luck....

Cheers norm, nice to be welcomed in. Do you know if its better to launch high or low tide at cullercoats, or does it not really matter. We would take any advice given.

I would expect on the way up the tide or certainly the upper half, but I'm not the expert on this, I'm sure you'll get a reply from the lads that launch there ....

Hi lads, I've fished out of Cullercoats for many years. The best time to launch is from half tide when the water is off the flat part of the beach, down towards low water, but on a big tide, the kelp and rocks are just below your boat at low tide so be aware.
At high tide, you will not be able to turn around on the beach as the tide comes well up the ramp, so unless you can reverse a trailer down the bank with a 90% dog leg at the bottom, forget high tide.
A good tip when recovering your boat at the bottom half of the tide using a rope from the towbar, always pull the boat out with the van at an angle to the slope of the beach, otherwise you will spin your wheels and get stuck in seconds.
My boat is called Lazy Daze, and will be out fishing again sometime in March if the weather is good. I will watch out for you. good luck.

Alright pal, had a word with my mate and i think we might have a go at the monthly comp. whats the crack with it, rules and regs etc. might as well get amongst it and have a bit crack.

Good advice there from Arthur. I’ve only launched a few times from Cullercoats and found it hard recovering the boat and trailer. Letting air out of the trailer tyres helped spread the weight and stopped them bedding in to the sand when in the water. Once hauled out the water it was OK.

I’ve launched at high tide by uncoupling the trailer and hitching a rope around the tow bar to lower the trailer down the ramp without needing to turn the car and trailer.

Captain marky mark, If you go to the video section on this site, click on, another day on lazy daze, then on the youtube link, it shows me launching the boat at the best stage of the tide, showing the water to be quite deep allowing the boat to roll easily into deep enough water.
There are quite a few video's from boat users from this forum to enjoy.

Cheers kev, thats exactly what we need, getting advice from the ones who know. I think after a few times of doing it im sure we will get the hang of it.
