Help Christ at Amble

We've got a new member fishing out of amble this coming season, he needs some tips on fishing that area, anybody like to add to this feel free

Hi Chris , first off, if you are launching at the public slip you need to pay the harbourmaster, you can pay each trip out or get a 12 month permit. I'm not sure what hey cost now though.
Have you launched from here already? You say you've been round he island , if so you'll know how tight the roundabout is at the top of the slip.
The slip is no good at low tide , so watch what times the tides are and make sure you come back with water in the river as well as launching, it can be a long wait for water
You will need a plotter if you don't already have one to put you over the hard ground or wrecks , that's where the fish hang out.

When I saw your post Ray, I thought 'bloody hell' that's a scoop for Amble!
Can't add any help for Chris as this will be my first year out of Amble as well, or any other port for that matter. What I can say is I looked at loads of old posts on this forum, it's amazing the amount of good info there is.

Thanks allot I have Garmin GPS but I just need to get it wired up can you give me any GPS coordinates of wrecks??

Yea I launched from the public slip but I wasn't out long and it was high tide.

I've been looking at the weather and sea state for this Saturday and it dosn't look to bad so i might have another go this weekend.

No sweat about the name.

The wrecks are all on your plotter, but I'll give you a list if you want , there's a post on here somewhere by Norman explaining how to fish them, you should read it and do exactly as it says
It's still a bit early to tell for Saturday, but the preceding few days are showing northerlies , I'd have a walk down the pier and have a look and see what the swells are like at the bar first before launching.
The wrecks are hard work early season, but if the fish are few and far it's a good time to get the wrecks marked up on your plotter.

You're right about being careful when launching Ray. I remember the first time I launched at Amble for the Bob White competition. Got into the boat and throttled forward...............thump, bang, engine up in the air. Some under water obstruction. The tide was quite low, and could see the bottom all the way down river, so any newcomer to launching there, beware.

Hello Ray / Chris,

having fished out of Amble for a few years the only things i would say is to keep an eye out if you are going up the river at low tide, make sure you stay in the channel as it can be very shallow in parts.

Also take care of the harbour entrance, i have had a few hairy moments when there is a northerly swell and the waves are channelled up the river. This can be especially bad again at low water when the entrance is shallow.

Just something to be aware of, i think a few people have had similar experiences!

Apart from that the fishing on the ground around amble is good as well as a few of the wrecks.

Aye Micky, another reason he needs his plotter set up , it shows the shallow areas down the river and the spits of rocks coming out from the island and the land south of the piers.
You will need a sounder as well Chris if you haven't already got one , to find the wrecks marked on your plotter or from co ordinates you might have.
Normans article explains it all perfectly if someone would be good enough to put a link up to it, I can never find it even thought spent hours reading it over and over when I first got the boat.

Great advice indeed and a hands down winner if there was a title of the year award.

I'm a bit concerned about Christ being at Amble though, as that is out first charter venue of the season and I am a confirmed atheist!

Yeah, thats a good point Ray.

It can be very shallow around the island at certain states of the tide. North and South.

There is a channel at the south side of the island which we always used if it was around low water to avoid the rocks.
