where to park

Don't know if any of you who launch at Cullercoats have noticed, but Beverley tce above the bay is now permit parking. You are not allowed to park on the beach or the area next to it, so it means quite a walk to the nearest car park. All not too bad if you can leave your boat with someone to stop it beaching etc;, but if you fish alone you will have to rely on the anchor. Last season I came back to the boat and some moron girl was sitting at the helm looking for the keys to start it up and go for a spin, soon to be accompanied by her boyfriend who thought it would be a laugh.
So before anyone pays their launch permit, I would seek clarification.
One other gripe, why is it tractors are allowed to park on the beach after launching and not 4wds

I have thought about Cullercoats, as the mooring fees at Amble or the RQ is a lot to fork out every year. I was thinking of getting an old land rover to launch at Cullercoats.
So if you can't park on the beach or anywhere close, how far is the carpark and I guess there would be a charge for that as well. Do you park the trailer on the beach?

Hi Peter, Yes you can leave your trailer on the beach. The nearest parking is at beaconsfield, which is past all the houses towards Tynemouth. Never used it myself, so don't know what the charges are, but can you imagine walking there or back especially in the summer wearing chest waders etc: From the beach to the car park would be about 400mtrs at least, plus, it gets very busy in the summer, so a parking place could be difficult.
One of the annoying things is, through the day there are plenty spaces at the permit holders houses, as many of the people who live there work.

What about parking on the side streets just past the Queens Head? will be a bit of a trek but at least it will be free

most of the home owners have been trying to get boat owners from parking there for years, from what I gather they don't like looking out the window and seeing boat trailers, there was a plan to have the boat park on the grass above Cullercoats Harbour, dead easy for everyone, the home owners soon put a stop to that.

Alan I meant leaving the trailer on the beach but putting the car outside someones house surely they cannot complain about that as the roads are free ish

By law you are entitled to park on any road that does not have parking restrictions. As long as you do not cause an obstruction, or block access to anyone's driveway.
I used to live in Collywell Bay Road at Seaton Sluice. Trying to park in front of my own house was a nightmare in the summer, when day visitors to the nearby cafe would descend in their droves. However because they were entitled to park in front of my property, I had to accept it. So will any residents in the Cullercoats area that does not have residential parking only. Please remember NOT to block anyone's drive though.

Bit of a downer that Arthur, i wouldnt fancy leaving the boat on an anchor and then having it being out of sight for a while. Do you have to pay for the tractor to launch , if so it could be they are trying to get you to use the tractor to launch, rather than your own 4x4...
Are you going to carry on using Cullercoats somehow, or is the Royal Quays in your mind....

belive the sea front houses are going to be permit parking, ressies only, so that is a no go. When i had my boat there was always plenty parking along there, but the ressies don't want you there.

Seems to be far too much resident power in these so called affluent postcodes - one of the reasons the whole sea front from the mouth of the Tyne to Whitley Bay has gone to the dogs in the last 20 years

They need to stop complaining and allow progress that will generate income to the local economy - and I don't mean more parking meters!!! Whitley Bay for example is one big effing car park!!

I'm not having a pop at all the residents - I lived and schooled there myself...but I do feel that there is a lot more that could be done if some residents didn't adopt the NIMBY attitude
