I went to a boat jumble and got 3x 10mt lengths of 10mm braided rope for a tenner top quality stuff and that has been all i have ever needed

For my anchor i use 10mm

10 mm is ample to moore the boat, but I think my mooring lines are 14mm and are different material to the anchor rope, which is 12mm nylon , the mooring lines are softer and more pliable, I wouldn't want them any thicker though as they fill the cleats at the I've they are. Polyester maybe?

Just had asearch on the net, and it states 10mm is ample for boats upto 6m, 14mm for boats upto 8m, but going a size bigger cant hurt
Nylon rope is recommended as it stretches as the boat moves A less stretchy type of rope is used with mooring snubbers...so i'm led to believe..

Have a look at the guide here Mooring Warps - Size Guide

I've just bought some 14mm lines as they feel a nice size to handle and went for 10 metre length. Shorter is usually OK, but the extra comes in ahndy at times and it's esier to tie off the excess than to add more on.

Does anyone use mooring rope snubbers to stop the impact on the ropes and cleats ......Are they worth getting

I’ve never used snubbers, just tied the lines with minimal slack so the boat cannot move much before coming tight on the lines and fenders so the forces are limited.
Where the line passes over the gunnel it chaffed its way into the wood, before I protected it by sliding a length of hose over the line.

Cheers Kev, I'll slide some hose pipe over the rope like you say
