  • Boat waste? Incineration

We run a small commercial trawler, this is something we've been looking into - we are getting a lot of waste after a few days of trawling, what is everyone doing with it? We've been looking a small waste incinerator, what are peoples thoughts on these.

depends what the waste is, seems as if he is trying to do the responsible thing instead of consigning all sorts to Davey Jones, think he is getting full up

The kind of waste that comes up in a trawl normaly gets returned to where it came from unless its a mine or a treasure chest ! That's the kind of waste I was thinking about !
          Cheers Bert

The ships I have worked on all have incinerators but whether they are environmentally friendly or not who knows?
They still need fuel to burn the rubbish and the ash still has to be disposed of.
Are the amount of emissions from the fossil fuel used to burn the rubbish any better than landfill after you have recycled all you can?
For the vessels I work on it is a storage issue and disposal one more than anything which requires an incinerator as sometimes we don't get into port for months on end and only have supply vessels every now and then with limited space.
I would plump for the recycle all you possibly can but bin the rest.

            Graham.

Do you trawl up many strange things or just plastic bottles and such? I have always wnated to spend a day on a fish trawler just to see what come sup in the net species wise etc.

After much deliberation we have bothered going for this in the end (Unless anyone can think of other wise).

We pull in a hell of a lot, but the docks have just have recently commissioned a big one of these marine incinerators So I can't see the point when this is located so close at the docks. Just finding somewhere to all put it now on the boat, maybe a compactor or similar????
