  • Boat thoughts

As some of you might know, I\'m looking for a boat. Was looking at a Reiver, but for a bit more was thinking of something like an Arvor, Orkney Day Angler 19+/ Pilot House 20 or maybe a Quicksilver like the one listed below:

Does anyone have experience of running a boat of this size and what costs I might be likely to incur? Also is anyone running a boat similar to those I have listed?

    cheers

I\'ve had an Arvor 23 since May of this year & I\'m very pleased with it. Quicksilvers are, I think, the same as Arvors only with petrol outboards as opposed to diesel inboards. There\'s a few more Arvors at Hartlepool, and all the owners I\'ve spoken to are happy with them. Even the smaller ones have quite a lot of usable dack space (a 19 footer would fish 4), and the walkways to the bow make mooring & anchoring less scary for your crew.

While we may lose the price advantage of red diesel, it\'s still a pleasure to be able to fill up straight from the pump rather than carting jerry cans all the way to the boat (there\'s no pump petrol at Hartlepool marina).

There are bargains to be had out there - bloke along the pontoon from me picked his Arvor 20 up, with a trailer, for the kind of money you\'re talking about. It was a couple of years old, with only about 30 hours on the engine - effectively a new boat.

Whatever you decide to get, best of luck, and stay safe. Any fish caught are a bonus on top of a return to port with your boat & crew intact and uninjured.

Happy to help with any more queries you have. You\'re also welcome to look over my boat - I\'m only generally up there at weekends though.

Cheers Phil, thats most helpful. Do you know who has the brokerage at Hartlepool by any chance. Just trying to maximise my chances of getting something local.

          cheers
