Quite right about getting on and off the budget berths especially if the wing gets a hold of you.

Stuey, i have a small boat policy with Haven Knox. It is a fully comp package inc 3rd party liability, theft ,trailer, damage etc, etc. Think i pay £150 a year.

4 stroke suzuki 50 will sip petrol whilst my 85 2 stroke guzzles it. Get 20 miles to 25 litres, 4 stroke probably 30 miles or better to 25 litres.

4 stroke engines tend to be £1000 more than 2 strokes to buy so do the sums , £1000 buys a lot of petrol even at todays prices.

    Marcs right 3 fish comfortable.

Need to know anything else just shout.

    Adam.

Does anyone know how much a Sportsman would cost new? It has to be one of my favourite boats, i\'ve had one of the old reivers which was a good boat.

        hi orinoco
we have just gone through the same as you and we wanted a new wilson flyer but budgett wont strech that far so we opted for a new engine and a second hand boat and we have enough left for some good electronics the engines we looked at were standard two strokes and four strokes untill we were told about a new evinrude etec two stroke engine that is supposed to be better on fuel than a four stroke we looked at all the options and we decided to have a new engine and a second hand boat as we were looking we saw boats for as little as 300 quid but the engines that we looked at second hand seemed to be about £1500 to 1800 and that was for one 10 to 15 years old but we also saw 2003 ex rnli engines for about the same money (strange so new but so cheap) so after lots of debates we decided to go for a new evinrude etec 60 hp fully fitted and new battery and new tank £4800 and that comes with a 3 year waranty and it does not need a service for 3 years but make sure you shop around as prices vary from week to week with dealers

hope this helps a little sean + sharon
