  • Reiver

After reading some of the useful comments on here, I think a Reiver Sportsman is going to suit my fishing needs. I can\'t afford a new one, but was wondering if anyone knew of a second hand one going for sale. A few seem to have been snapped up recently that haven\'t been advertised widely.

    regards

      Stuey,

Have you considered a new boat but with a second hand engine Alan Craggs usually has some good engines or knows where to find one.

I did the same my self with Daisey Duke as my budget didn\'t stretch as far as i would have liked to buy everything brand new.

If you need to know anything elase give me a shout, mines in the RQs if you want a closer look.

Try not to miss out on a super boat.

      Adam.

          Alan,

Just talking specifically about Reiver Boats here.

Not trying to mislead anybody but reivers are like rocking horse s**t second hand due to 1 man output at reiver(Alan Craggs).

You are right with a brand new engine but Alan Craggs wont sell you an engine thats not right.

Buying a second hand boat usually means a second hand engine though.

I would recomend a reiver Crackin boats

If you are going to moor you boat up then Alan would deliver it for you and save you the expence of a trailer that could go towards a new engoine. Unless you want to trailer it about.

I would go up and have a bit crac with him if you hav\'nt already as he\'s very helpfull.

At the start of the season I bought a secondhand reiver and engine and can\'t fault them apart from the force 75hp engine being a gas guzzler, so in the future I fancy a more economical outboard.

If buying a second hand boat they usually come with nextra\'s such as life jackets and fishfinder that you may have to buy if getting a new boat.

daisy, nowt against Alan and his boats, i used to be up there all the time a good few years back. I know he would not sell you a duff engine or a duff boat. Reivers must be about the best hull around and where the fore runner of many of the modern hulls. As you i was just talking generally. Another place for good quality second hand outbaords is the RNLI, if you can find one of the places that sellt here old engines.

they also have a \'real\' scrapyard for spares, hundreeds if not thousands of engines

There\'s a Riever Sportsman lying in Eyemouth Harbour on a mooring. It was sitting with 6\" of water in the bottom the last time I looked. Don\'t know if it\'s for sale, but theres no harm in asking. The HM should have a name or telephone number of the owner.

Most of the used engines Alan sells are from the RNLI, He had a shed load of them last time I was up there, next to his wacky races boat.

Must agree with you codfather i have an 85hp on my reiver and that enjoys a good drink, goes like a missile though.

Stuey theres a Reiver next to mine in the rqs never moved for months might be worth asking in the office for contacts. If you go up to see Alan ask to see the 85hp class certificate he has. Probably won it on a wacky tea tray or something at Windermere.

Thanks for the info lads. Adam cheers for the offer of looking over your boat one day, that would be most useful.

I\'ve got a coulple of other questions if thats ok?

What does a berth in RQ cost for a Reiver?
Do you insure your boat, and whats it cost?
What is the fuel consumption like on the engine you have? I have no idea what to expect.

Oh and how many people can fish comfortably? Once people know your getting a boat, they all want to go fishing!!!

Cheers for the help lads, anymore usful info would be champion.

                            regards

Berthing costs at the Royal Quays for a Reiver are £800 per year on the budget births, a bugger to get in and out of, for me anyway .

You have to be insured to be at the Royal Quays, Think mine was about £150 per year, with Haven Knox Johnston, You probably can get cheaper but these came highly recommended, if you know me you will understand why you need a highly recommended insurance company

I had a new suzuki DF50 4 stoke on mine, flew along and was GREAT on petrol, had finns on as-well, don\'t know if this made a difference?

Fish 3 champion, 4 at a push but loads of room with 3,

                              Hope this helps

                              Marc.
