    Hi, Finn
Not sure about the tides yet, but their seems to be plenty of mackeral still about.
As for tactics, alot of people seem to be still fishing with baited feathers (jumbo hokies for me) above a pirk or plain led. feathers baited with macky if you get some or failing that wrag seems ok.

Spot on Codfather ....... good tactics ......
Try squid as well , the ones about 5 inches long.

Mackerels best though if it`s still there, a lot will depend on the weather between now and then, they may well move off.

the best person to ask is the skipper a couple of days before you go, or even the day before. He will be able to let you know what has been caught the days previous. Things change very quick this time of year and it is to early to say what you will catch. the plentiful mackerel shoals could disappera over night, take some with you in case. If there has been certain areas fishing well he will be heading for them. Hartlepool boats tend to fish the rough ground simply because they get lots of goood fish from it, wrecks there this year have been quite poor and there are some very good skippers down there. This week a 28lb ling has been reported, plus plenty of mackerel, whiting and a few shoals of coalies. Basically take some heavish gear for the ling, long traces baited with mackerel. And a light outfit for whitng, codling and coalies. Who are you going out with.

Hot off the press good catches of ling and the odd big cod this weekend at Hartlepool

will be talking to Gerry tonight as i do every wednesday, he collects the Hartlepool info for me for my columns. if i remeber i will post what has been caught, or you can always give me an e mail to remind me. Gerry will always work hard for you and knows the area well, been out with him quite a few times over the years. If he gives advise on tactics when you are off, take it. Too often skippers are ignored because the angler thinks they know better and then blame the skipper if they catch nowt. Sure you will have a good time and there will be plenty of tea on the go.

spoke to Gerry earlier, apparently mackerel have been a bit thin on the ground, you had better take some bait with you. And the offshore wind has not helped.
