As Kev says...The parachute rockets are even more severe from what I’ve read, hellish if they misfire, and run the risk of landing while they are still alight, so not a good idea to set them off inland.

I wouldnt think twice about setting one off in a boat full of people with fuel on if i was sinking, but not for fun....

They must be safe to use as just about every small boat flare pack you can buy has a rocket or para flare in..anyway the set i got was £95 2x rocket flares, 2x hand flarea and 2x hand smoke.

Think i will jsut keep hold of the old rocket flares and set the smoke ones off in the field at the back of my house

Thats the problem with things like these, we trust the manufacturer that they will work ok as there is no way to test it, as mentioned earlier about experience of setting one off, maybe there should be some type of course that could be done, with the RNLI etc given prior notice of the event.....just a thought....

I have set of a few flares over the years on bonfire night. In the eightys, you could buy a £1 pack of out of date flares/rockets etc: at the sail makers on the quayside. There would be a couple of rockets, 4 red flares, a couple of smoke bombs. The rockets went off with a hell ov a whoosh and quite a bit of recoil, but nothing to deter me setting off another. All done a long way from the coast though. Never had a dud neither.
As a kid, and when I first started work in the sixties, people used to set off massive aluminum cased parachute flares which traveled a long way. I some times found them smashed through slated roofs around Blyth. These things measured about 3ft before launch.

                    Flares

I think thats as good a price as you will get Richie, plus free container as well.
Mine are due for renewal so I will get some ordered up on Monday, thanks for doing the research work as well.
I always retain the out of date ones on board, the theory is to set them off first in an emergency then the in date ones.

I have already fired all my old ones on new years eve, only had 1 out of 8 not go off.

I ordered them above today, was going to get a Hanson pack but less for more.

Yer i searched for awhile for the best prices, next best was £102 i could find...i ordered them after reading the reviews.

Since i am dont have or need any new rods, reels, traces or lures at least a new flare set means i have something new on the boat this year 11 weeks until the first trip

Well flares come today and happy with them thou need to find a new spot on the boat to keep them as my current store area is not the correct size for the new rocket flares.
