Why is it that over the winter boat fishing goes / or seems to go "down the pan" ?? I know because of the weather it knack's things up, but apart from that why ?,Do all the fish go so far out we can not get to them, or do they come so close inshore they can not be caught by boat,..I have fished from shore on some very still nights, almost a summer night, no wind no swell, the sea as flat as as a f%rt,>> Can you night fish from a boat,Im talking only about 200 or 300 yards off Whitley Bay just off the lighthouse, only got a little boat,Its 12ft long,. is is worth a go on a winters night, ?? cheers Tich

It's all down to the feed in the summer there is plenty of shoals of sprat,sandeel,macky,herring etc on the wrecks but in the winter the shoals move Right off and the majority of fish follow untill a big sea when the bottom is stirred up and feed is inshore we struggle

As Deano said, It is a bit daunting fishing at night in the size boats we fish from, i would say try 200-300 yards off during the day in calm conditions, you can get some canny days fishing during daylight just out of casting range. Have you got an outboard on the boat

Yes got all of the gear, radio outboard, No lights, just thought Night fishing on the shore is good, I can cast about 100 yds and catch , thought take the boat out 300 yds and catch more, I dont know, just another one of my stupid questions, If I think about it I could probably answer it my self, cheers lads,,

Small boats getting plenty of fish,some doubles within half a mile off but you need to be anchored and uptiding.
