  • braid/nylon

Was just looking at some charter boat websites and came across one requesting that you don\'t use braid. I was advised to use braid when I did my first boat trip, only last year, and have always used it since until last week when I took some friends out with borrowed tackle and one had problems with his reel. He took my gear while I tried to sort his out. When it was sorted he said he\'d got used to mine and wouldn\'t give it back. I found the nylon felt much less positive and was affected much more by the drift/tide. I\'m sure I\'ve noticed that on boats where most people are using braid there are far less tangles. What do people think?

i think the reason skipers dont like you using braid is because the tangles are nr impossible to get out, i was once on a boat out of whitby , he told us not use braid. and he had the cheek to cut off my traces (anything over 1 hook) again to save him a lot of trouble with tagles me thinks

I\'m guessing you are talking about the same boat (moved from Whitby to Hartlepool). I\'ve only every heard of one boat that does this and he even makes people remove their braid and then sells them mono! Rigs also have to be of a set type!

Everyone I know who has been out on the boat have always said they will never go on it again because of the skippers attitude. Needs to get with the times and get of his arse. Braid might be harder to untangle but it is less likely to cause tangles than thick mono catching in the tide. If he is not prepared to undo tangles he shouldn\'t be a charter skipper! Braid is the future - he needs to face facts!

That skipper also has a boat that you can all fish one side of so I dont know what his problem was with braid. I do think that if you have experienced anglers (or those less experienced with a good skipper giving advice (about when to drop wind up etc)) there are less tangles with braid due to less drift etc.
give a man a fish and feed him for a day - teach the man to fish and feed him for life!!!!

Thanks lads. Thought his website made him sound a bit of a tw*t. Won\'t bother going on that one then.
