Gents, I need to share something with you. I've always been a bit sniffy when choosing braid and would only ever buy the expensive brands such as PowerPro, Whiplash etc.
In May I fished Norway and one of the lads was using "Spectra" braid which literally stopped the boat on the rare occasions that he got snagged. During the course of our boating season off the North East coast he continued to use the same braid because there was no deterioration and again he would hold the boat against the drift when he became snagged. Having gone through a couple of spools of expensive braid, I enquired where he bought this "Spectra" braid and was informed that he purchased it on-line through ebay at £7.50 for 300m with free postage from China.
I've always felt that hell would freeze over before I bought anything from China but having seen first hand how good the stuff seemed to be, I figured it was worth risking £7.50 to see for myself. I simply typed in Spectra Braid on ebay and ordered some from a seller called "agepochfishing". The braid duly arrived about three weeks later from Hong Kong and ya know what, theres a lot more than 300m on the spool, I've used it, it's spot on quality, I've caught lots of fish and I've since ordered several more spools.
I don't know how they can sell it at £7.50 with postage free from Hong Kong but for fishing wrecks and rough ground you cannot go wrong.

No, I didn't have to pay any tax or duty, the braid arrived through Royal Mail in a pukka parcel clearly showing it's from Hong Kong.

Great tip for people and even better for starters who have just shelled out alot for rods and reels already.

I like, you have only used the firelines, tried these cheaper briads and they now line the bottom of a land fill, even that whiplash at about £28 a spool went in the bin along with that Dyno Braid 3000.

At £7.50 it is worth any and everyone worth purchasing....nice one :)

p.s The only briad i now use is Fireline original grey or green, that stuff has been going on a couple of my reels for over 5 years and takes some snapping but at £30 a spool your stuff is the better option if as strong.

I bought some for my boat reel 3 years back when I first started going in the boats. I've just bought some more to replace the original and to load up my second boat reel. Mines lasted three seasons. I rinse off the reel after each trip. Fantastic value and it lasts.

It wouldn't come as a shock if I found that all our "top end" braids were manufactured in China because after all, the UK no longer manufactures anything and even Northumbrian Water is owned by the Chinese. Come to think of it, British Energy is owned by the French, Scottish Power is owned by the Spanish, EON and NWE Npower is owned by the Germans so if we poor fishermen can benefit from some foriegn imports without massive import duty, bring it on.

I've bought braid from China for the last 5 years without any problems, other than the colour splashing all over the boat.
