  • October charters

So lads, we are down again late next week and I am quietly confident/insanely hopeful that the weather will be kind to us and that the fish will show up

Just wondered if you think at this time of year, it will be shads, hokkies or bait that will do the trick, or just cover all bases and take everything we have?

Out twice from Hartlepool and once from South Shields. Surely can't be worse than Easter or Summer.....................................can it??

Any doom and gloom predictions about the weather, please desist from posting. I have vowed NOT to look up forecasts, preferring to put on my rose tinted spectacles and convince myself that, as the last two October trips have been good, this one will be too

So bait or plastics?......................................... .............or a Rob pork pie special

Well unlike you Mark, i do look at the forcast ahead as a rough guide.....well very rough guide....
I would cover all bases and take bait as well, baited daylights and hokkais are a good bet........with pork pies and orange peel a close second , if you dont use em.....eat em....
Winds are all over the place next week, with a max swell height of 5' so not too bad for the bigger charter boats...

Chris, I have made myself demented this year obsessively, checking forecasts and as you say, it is such a very rough guide, I am taking the pragmatic approach this time..............................yeah right, who am I kidding........... by the start of next week I will be on them twice a day, as usual

First charter is a week on Saturday, so here's hoping.

Mackerel out the freezer then. Need to get some daylites I think, forgot about them, so thanks for that.

Really Chris? Only ever bought rag once for a boat, was useless..........mind you that was out of Amble when everyone was catching on daylites, baited with Asda whole cooked prawns..............I mean how could a couple of amateurs like us know that would work??

Anywhere to get rag in Hartlepool? Thought some squid too, worked for us in the past.

As we are out 3 times (hopefully!) it won't go to waste.

Aye mark, I agree with chris, ragworm and squid (and possibly some mussel to tie on a flowing trace), but rag and squid always best bet, usually rag on the bottom hook draging the floor and squid dancing on the top hook(s).
Best used (in my oppinion) with either of four possibilities (in order orange muppets, 5/0 hokkais, walkers, or daylites.

                  good luck you pair.
