some damage done there, Tynemouth Beach is covered in weed and some ruddy big trees, no doubt come down the rivers and washed up by the big sea

Some poor bugger with the sunken boat Colin. I had a couple of chucks on the pier on Tuesday night and the weed was unbelievable, even in the triangle. Off for another go somewhere tonight hopefully weed free!

No it's not, it's about half a mile up the river coquet dug into the river bank off to the side of the river and well protected from the sea, have a look on google earth , then you'll get an idea of how much extra water must have came down the river to cause so much of a problem in the marina.
The first three pictures are of boats moored in the river , the last time we had the big floods most of them were sunk and the harbour walls collapsed through erosion of the foundations .
The boats in the river are well protected from the sea, it's purely flood water coming down the river that causes the problems.
If you look closely at the picture of the marina, you will see a criss cross of timbers through the masts of the boats to the top left, this is the remains of an old jetty that is built on the marina wall, the boats that get hammered with the floods are in the river beyond that wall.

By the sounds of it Richy, all the crap that has been floating around at sea this year is on the beaches and in he marinas now, about time too, been a lot of flotsam this year .

Most of the rubbish in the marina went out with the ebb tide and the south westerly, but with the tides making I think they'll keep lifting flotsom every high water.

Crikey !!! ..... so there's yet another good reason to be in a "locked" marina.
Certainly looks a mess with all the driftwood.

Thats shocking they not using some of the thousands they get each year to clean that up abit? lets face it you cant use your boat if you are in that conrner of the marina with out damage to your boat.

The Royal Quays have had alot of wood floating around this year but any large bits or large groupings of wood has been removed by the work boat.

Last year i hit a lump of wood at only 8knots right at the end of the season just passing the piers and it almost stopped the boat dead, when it got lifted out the water the following March it was clear to see it had damaged the skeg and the shaft was out..wood must of been jammed between the skeg and shaft.

I have been down my boat and started removing everything, last of the stuff get lifted next time i am down and thats it until 1st weekend in April for me.
