Went to whitby yesterday on my own on a spare of the moment,Took the day off and had a nice day..
with the weather looking great i thought why not.We left harbour about 7 am straight to the bellbouy and went fishing for mackrel for bait.
In about 20 minutes we had enougfh bait for everyone all day. We sailed southtowards Hawsker i think, with plenty of wrecks to go on.
Things were abit slow for the first couple of hours with a small trickle of ling coming up on bait.I was on shad and it was hard work with nothing to show. Slack tide came and things started to change, with a slow drift over the wrecks we where over the wreck for longer drift.
I started putting a slither of mackrel on my shad and within 10 minutes i got this beauty a 12lb ling
A steady stream of fish started coming aboard from everyone the sun came out and the sea was like a mirror. Then a few cod started appearing
Later in the day a few coloured shad changes i thought i had caught the wreck.. But a split second later i could reel in and minutes later this came up, a 17lber, with a whiting hanging out of its mouth
The whiting was still flapping so i pulled the bewildered fish out put it in the water and it swam away ;D ;D ;D ;D
i was wondering if the whiting took my baited shad and the ling grabbed both ???
Things went quiet again with Rich going from wreck to wreck. Then i struck into this nice cod a 10 1/2 lber
We set off back a bit earlier so we could bag up on fresh mackrel to take home
What a enjoyable day was had by all and i must say Rich and Deano worked hard for everyone.
I caught the ling and the majority of my fish on a RedHead shad, But when i lost that to a wreck I was catching on Orange..
When that was lost I caught my biggest cod on Rhubarb and Custard,, all with a bait tip
I did think that the bait might hinder the movement in the shad but i was proved wrong ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
At the end of the day i had about 6 cod & 13 ling (gave 4 away and threw 3 back)
