Catch 22..fri.10.08.2012

What a glorious day for a bit boat fishing we all thought...well..we got the glorious day spot on,unfortunately the bit about fishing did,nt apply.Despite skipper bob,s best efforts the fish refused to reveal themselves(maybe too many late nites tuning into the olympics!)...wreck after wreck and still nothing..so, desperate to try and retrieve something from the day we went hard grounding..after 3 hours or so the lads had 2 codling..2 and 2lb.8ozs in weight which of course we returned...the mackerel have gone..and everthing with them(2 day at least)...even me new digi scales which i bought at great expense(to settle any doubts about heaviest fish)hardly got used(well..they got used twice to be exact...batteries should be good for a while i,m thinking!)..Put off...nah!!..we will return(when the olympics av finished!!).
Thanks again Bob/Kill Bill for a good day..the craic as always spot on!..as was the tea..cheers lads.

Easterly wind conditions

I was on the boat on Friday also and it was the quietest day ever for the fishing, right from the start it felt like the fish were not there and more or less stayed that way all day. The 2LB 8OZ cod I caught was on the fladen luminous squid rig I mentioned in my first post.
I wonder if anyone has any alternatives to wrecking and hard ground fishing when the easterly wind is around. I mentioned trying sandy/mud bottom marks to the skipper for flatties but no one seemed to think it was worth a try.
Has anyone tried that sort of ground in similar conditions before or have any other suggestions?
