  • Paravane yacht fishing

    Hi chaps,

My brother and I have been sailing up to Scotland from Newcastle and with the wind and tide against us we ended up crawling (under motor) all the way to Eyemouth.
We put a rod with a storm paravane hock eyes and a spinner off the back of the boat. A fishermans ton of mackies later (biggies as well) we stopped fishing.
    Too many mackies.
I would really love to catch something else.
Has anyone got any advice about trolling with paravanes targeting anything other than mackerel on the North East coast?

Tomma, I take it you have a plotter and sounder on the yacht, if so why not detour over some wrecks and adjust the paravane to go deeper, you should pick up some pollock then

Cheers guys I will have a go over some wrecks.
I was messing about with an old Scarborough reel and a big weight making a little down rigger thing and the gulf of Mexico fishing for marlin where do you think you are Tomma you knacker was said very loudly by several people.

Have to be close in, a storm paravane won't go down much past 20ft.
            Pollack!

Never seen them before, you'll have to say how they work out when you try them. I use a luhr jensen deep six and they'll do fifty feet well with a 20ft leader and 3 gummi lures. I use a line counter reel as well which is a must for setting depth.Good luck with the paravane and keep us informed !

I had a look on ebay and the only ones i could find came from the states with a nine and a half quid postage fee?

Nobody does them here, there was a scottish loch trolling shop but I think they went under. I got mine from cabelas in the states and got six in one order a few years ago, I 've lost two since then so I'm careful how close to the bottom I go now.
