Me and the missus set off at 5.30 this morning to head to Manchester to get the engine fitted.......
Great i thought, steady 60 mph, just over 2 hours and i'll be on time for the 9.00 appointment to get it fitted....how wrong could i be .
M62 was closed between junction 25 and 26........4 hours to do 2.5 miles and then diverted to Halifax at snail pace...
For those of you that have used the M62, you will know its all inclines, and the back roads are worse....poor Golf's clutch was bouncing
We eventually arrived at 2.00 ....But all credit to the lads at Bill Higham, they started work on removing the Merc and had the new Mariner fitted, everything correctly sealed, remotes fitted, gauges wired up and run in the tank for 5.00
Well here's the finished result......

Bollocks, We're in trouble now when the Mariner twins get teamed up and go for those specimen pollocks, I think thats Robs record breaking specimen, .............sure i'd seen something like that somewhere........

look after it well, get it propped correct as your first priority job when you can.
when you get you petrol, make sure you syphon out of a merc or beemer they will have fresh maybe that dearer petrol in them...

as a tradition on new henjins i think the kafiga rules are bite the head off a live macky for good luck......................not sure.............Jim, North Star, should have done it, he'll know

Looks a fantastic modern piece of kit Chris, well worth the wait and detour.
Will now be waiting for those all important catch reports. Good luck for the re-start mate. Sounds like your gonna need a bigger car with 4 wd. otherwise that ramp at the marina is gonna eat your clutch up.

As for biting the head off a live mackerel......well, i'll take my chance...
Mr Higham said once the engine is ok to run at WOT, to let him know if it is reaching the req revs, if not he will exchange the prop .

Arthur.....The golf towed it great , apart from the snails pace on inclines for long periods , so i've got to ask myself is it worth sacrificing changing to a 4x4 to use maybe 15 times a year , or have 60mpg and use a rope to drop the boat in....

Running in period....i'm getting conflicting reports here....i was told one hour at 1000rpm and so on....but on reading the manual last night it states....



What do you think Paul, doesnt seem as bad as i thought....and doesnt mention 1 hour at 1000rpm...

If thats Mariners recommendation for run, where did the 1 hr thingy come from.

Good move on changing the prop to get ya revs. to reach your revs after run in period make sure your loaded, get some weight on that boat not empty. don't idle it for long periods.

has it got engine output N2k, into your plotter ?

The 1 hour thing was what the fitter told me yesterday, but he also said, read the manual, so i'll go off the manual i think...
Not sure about N2K, what is it....It has wires on the engine harness for Smartcraft set up, but i've spent enough for the time being, my reiver had the smartcraft set up but i didnt really use it...

Jester,
looked at iboats and a few forums, they are all indicating the varying throttle between the revs at the stated periods, no trolling at the same revs for long periods no idling.all in line with the manual.

the smart craft hook up to your plotter if you hook it up, then the engine data when you get the revs with a loaded boat, sets the benchmark for your future months and years.
you will have a clean boat propped correctly.
I would and did, make a data sheet up, take your readings off the plotter, oil pressure, fuel consumption temp etc, at 200 rpm ranges right up to wot.

you will then have comparison in the future, that tells you if owt is changing with the engine and your set up.

Just before i lifted out, i had my original numbers, i was loosing 3-4 knots with the slime on the coppercoat, i did the same tests and compared the temperature and revs etc. i couldn't hit wot revs and temps were rising to max temp earlier etc.
did it again after wash off and putting it back in clean and back to normal numbers.
basically its a reference, but handy to do you never know.

You certainly know your stuff Paul , if i get the funds together i will get the smartcaft set up, but i've had a canny outlay this month so it will have to wait for the time being

Jester i'm not familiar with the smart craft and don't know what info it will give you but it may be worth looking into.
have you got a rev counter fitted ?
