So is it wrong to go out 10 miles to a wreck on a 17` boat? Just saying like.
If its not broke, fix it until it is!

It was exactly the same at the air show. Me and the Missus were at anchor just outside the piers. These two kids on a rib were weaving in and out the boats at about 15 knots.

I think the patrol officers should exercise common sence. If a boat is tearing past rat house corner then fine them.

If someone is doing 7 knots then tell them to slow down.

Regardless of what type of watercraft it is.

            Rant over

I'm off to try my jet boat out....

Just to add in again the patrol is basically there to stop people being stupid in the river where the speed limit has been in place for years.

If a fishing boat comes out of the marina and heads to open sea at 10 knotts we (well me and a couple others) will not give chase trying to tell them to slow down, we know most people who have fishing boats are 'normally' sensible and know how to drive a boat. If the boat comes out and it doing 20 knotts then yes we will ask them to ease up.

If there is a speed boat or jet ski staying in the river flying about then we will go over and see them (if we can) or catch them when they are coming in.

I cant see the patrol bothering many fishing boats unless they really take the mick, the patrol is there to try and keep the river users safe.

I would also add there are 8 people doing the job in 2 man (and women) teams, people are different and will see things differently.

So end of the day patrol is just trying to keep the river safe and trying to stop people on the river taking the mick.

One of the big problems regarding "Jet-ski's" is that under the International "Rules of the Road" they are not deemed as a vessel. This has been used in a couple of legal cases; and the after appeal; the judge came down on the side of the Jet-ski.

The below paper explains the legal position re-Jetski's and there classification as a vessel or not..
