27/5/12 sapphire was back out yet again 8 anglers turn up I WISH WHEN YOU BOOK FOR THE NUMBER YOU SAY ARE COME"N AND THEY DROP OUT YOU FONE ME AND LET ME KNOW HAS OTHERS WANT TO COME I TURN DOWN AT LEAST 5 LADS ON SATURDAY NITE WANT"N TO GO FISHING SUNDAY ? you book the number you say are come"n and you PAY for that number, Fishing was a bit slow sunday still some good cod and pollock, ling new anglers on the boat who not boat fished before shows in the catch, but overrall good day bout 30 fish and a lot going back, cod to 8lb fell to a young lad of 15, ling to 8lb, nice pollock 8lb,

I think the charter game will always be the same lads booking for 10, 8 turn up ,simple really, make them pay for ten and get money back from there mates

good catch again, and a think your spot on about numbers dropping out, your fuel bill`s are the same no matter how many people are on the boat.

Yeah but you cannot blame the other members of the party if one or two dont turn up ,Its happened to me several times ,people say yes we are defiantly going so you make the booking in good faith ,then they dont even bother ringing you or the skipper to tell him.
and your left to explain the following day ,i agree its not good, as the fuel bill is the same .
But these people just dont get invited back out ,no matter what their excuse was,I have been going out for approx 14 years with various skippers and have never let anybody down.Comment

I agree with some of that Peter ,but why should people be expected to pay for people who don't turn up,in other words if you can accommodate 10 anglers and only 7 turn up then the rest pay for the other 3. so why don't you advertise it as that.Or inform people when they book that if they don't turn up or only some of their party turn up then the rest have to pay , you would get 10 separate anglers all booking up individually
People wouldn't take the chance.i agree its not right as it still costs you the same in fuelComment

just read your post again you paid £30pp 25 years ago that has to be a mistake surely?? when i started to go out 14 years ago it was £15 for a 7am until 5pm trip and has steadily risen over the years which you do expect. i am more than happy to pay the prices that boats are quoting .as i enjoy my fishingComment

the number of times I here this happening is amazing, have mentioned it in papers but some just don't care, they don't realise that this is how skippers earn their living, the costs are incredible and increasing the loss of a couple of anglers can mean a loss for the day. I know skippers don't do it but I am all for a down payment from each angler to cover costs if they don't turn up, many other businesses do this. Also if you book the whole baot and a couple don't turn up you still pay for whole boat, then it is up to the party organiser to get onto his mates for the money.AlanComment

I agree, Peter does require a deposit ,before your penciled in for the date you require .which is great and i don't mind paying the full amount before the trip . but all your going to get is 10 people making individual bookings.
If the boat is advertised for 10 anglers and 11 turn up would the anglers get a reduction ?Comment

If its space your after book THE FAMOUS,10 anglers pay for full boat and bring a football, and tennis rackets , there's loads of room even when 12 on you have about 2 metres between each angler also if a boat is licenced for 10 with 2 crew,then that means 10 anglers and if the skipper puts 11 on then its not legal unless the 11th is crew memberOriginally posted by big fish View PostComment
