  • Boat reel for £80 or less

Hi lads has anyone got any idea of which boat reel I should get. I have upto £80 to spend. Been using a 7000 for years but it's about time to change it. Please help.

I would recomend a penn 225LD. This is a nice open spool leaver drag reel, the drag is easy to adjust while reeling a fish in so that you have more control, Just incase you hook that bigun

The only thing is they dont make them anymore, but they do crop up on eBay every so often you should pick one up for well within your budget.

Then all you need is some 40lb dynon 3000 to put on it
Beat them in their own back yard

Theres a canny Penn Senator for sale in the classifieds, bit bulky for my likes but bullet proof and easy to maintain.

                  Shimano TLDs 15 or 20
Do own original Penn GTI 10 & 20 WOULDN'T buy the newer models as like the Abu's the none made in Sweden models the Penns reels are made elsewhere also, Me's Thinks.

Penn 535, had mine 10 years, used on the rocks, on the boat and in Norway hauling up big cod! Still good as new! excellent for pirking and shadding.
