Welcome to the site, is your fear of water or being sea sick?

Already stated above if your unsure go for a short trip out, i see your from South Shields so either the JFK or the Mistress do short trips and full day trips mid week and weekends (details of the boats on home page) also other ports such as Blyth,Amble,Sunderland and Pool also have good charters doign the same type of trips.

You can hire gear on most boats so dont spend money on rod's and reels unless you know you like it, fishing tackle wise a couple of priks, 4-5x 10oz leads, a few daylights 2/0 and 5/0 and a pack of shads would see you through a wrecking day no problem.

Ring one of the skippers up and if you say its your first trip am sure they would be happy to advise you on what has been catching and what to get gear wise.

Anything else just ask on here am sure you will get lots of replys

Whatever your fear is wether it be of the open sea or just being on a boat. You'll have to overcome your fear are you aren't going to enjoy what is a brilliant experience and not to be missed. Believe me once youve got your first trip under your belt you'll be back for more.

hi mate give it a whirl, but dont make the mistake i made last year,as a kid and upto last year i had never had sea sickness, but was ill on a trip last year, invest 3 quid in some sea sickness tablets mate, you may not suffer from sea sickness buts its better to be out fishing than puking!
sometimes i sits and thinks, but thinks better whilst sitting on a rock fishing

Maybe getting over the fear 1st before attempting the fishing might be worth a go . Folk on here may run you out for bit coastal sightseeing so you can get the feel of things perhaps?

You could try one of the short trips out from Amble in the summer mate. They head around the island looking at the seals but dont last long if you dont like it.

If your ok you could then book an evening fishing trip.

Hopefully you will be out wrecking by the end of the summer.

                    Good luck

I had my first boat trip in 20+ years a few seasons ago. On board the Bon Ami with Dougie Hogg out of Craster.
8 hour trip and spent the first six hours hanging over the side breathing out of my ar*e. Dougie was a diamond. Gave me plenty of tips and moved regularly to ease the sickness. Once back we had a good chat and advised me to get seasick tablets and give it another go. I use joyriders, one an hour before the trip. Sorted. Now I love it. Been out 4-5 trips every year since with Dougie and he still laughs at me. Find a good skipper, tell him your concerns and go for it. I've got to the stage where I want my own boat. You're missing out if you don't try. Good luck.

as the rest say...anti sickness tablets...i spent 6 hours yesterday spewing and curled up in the cabin, because i thought i didnt need them...WRONG!

there top of my list...after that just hire a rod and reel buy some 8oz weights and some hokeyes...a bag of ragworm and off you go...if you like it...grab some shads and a road and reel thats it...you will never shore fish ever again lol.
