For £1440, the 12 people could chip in and buy a small boat!

              Groupon

The trip on the groupon offer was only a 4 hour trip. Total rip off.

I would just use Norma at Amble Angling Centre and get an 8hr trip for less with no misleading discounts, full liscense and insurance and you'll know the name of boat and skipper.

from what I can gather who you phone could just be a company who does bookings and takes their cut, which is added to the price of the normal charter, those who have contacted me have all said, they will not name the boat. It could also be a con, asking you for money then "gone with the wind" be careful, if you are booking a charter, book with the boat direct.

                          groupon

I have spoken to some of the other charter skipper’s that work out of Amble and nobody knows who Coquet Island Charters are.
Nobody has ever heard of them before and up till now nobody has heard of anybody booking with them.
There was a fellow about 15 years ago who was making booking’s with Charter Boat skipper’s at the going rate and adding £15 for his trouble, he had a bed and breakfast place at Alnmouth and he was advertising all in packages with packed lunches.
When I found what he was doing I cancelled all bookings with him and I think everybody else did as well.
This sounds like the same type of scam.

The expense and running cost of getting a Charter boat licensed to MCA Code of Practice is more or less
The same for everybody the only varying factor is the value of the boat you book on i.e. the more expensive the boat and running cost’s the more you will have to pay.

This is why a boat that only needs to go 5 miles from port charges £25 per head and a boat that specialises in Wrecking trips can charge £40 plus.
We at Amble come in the mid range with wrecks and good rough ground within a 10 to 15 mile radius therefore the boats charge accordingly.
All Charter skipper’s that have operated out of Amble more that 5 year’s Charge between £30 to £35 per trip (usually 8 hours )and the price is set by the individual and are not fixed by a collaboration between the skipper’s.

With the massive increase in fuel prices over the last couple of year’s the Skippers have absorbed the extra expense and held their prices at what we hope is a reasonable price.

By far the best way to book your trip is direct with the Skipper that way you Know what boat you are booking,
Who the skipper is and what type of operating License and insurance they have.
He can tell you what you need to bring and what the fishing is like at the moment and what the fish are being caught on, whether the ground is fishing the best or is the weather and tides going to be suitable to fish the wrecks
Any booking made through a third party makes that third party responsible for that booking and if you get booked on a vessel that is not up to MCA standards you will not be covered by insurance or by the legislation for taking passengers to sea. For more information on booking a boat trip you can go to
                          Professional Boatman's Association :: Home
It is so easy to set up a free Website these days to test the water, or post bogus catch reports on internet fishing sites to drum up a bit of trade,
This type of advertising can only harm the responsible Charter Skipper’s and the port they work from and the businesses that they have built t up over a number of year’s.

Boats that have worked out of Amble for more than 5 years are as follows,

                          Vessel Skipper Tel number’s website
