That will be becase the UK is given Brazil £128 million in aid support every year same as we are given 60 odd million to the Argies that have just about started a war with us again over oil.

Yes you need to register your boat and you pay full tax on 60% of the fuel you buy and reduced or no tax (cant remember what) on the other 40% as you are saying you are only using 60% of your red for the boat engine movements and 40% for running a heater or cooker.

It was introduced about 3 years ago.

Whoever you are purchasing the fuel from unless you are transporting it from a none "floating fuel station" for boats only.

I won't linger on this but must have my 2 penneth ...................

This is a tax (called duty) simply placed on "those that can pay it .... ie robbing the (semi)-rich (not that rich could be pointed at any of us here).

Those in high places (Labour at the time) looked around and thought, we'll charge the farmers as they use lots of low duty fuel ... then it dawned on them ... naw they'll just ask for bigger subsidies to make it up.
They then thought we'll charge road haulage, they use lots of fuel, then realised they already do charge them and any more would bring the country to a halt with no haulage.
Then they thought all that fuel used at sea, no one would know if we charged the sea fishermen fuel duty ..... then they realised they already strangled the fishing fleet and they cant even get out to burn what they already have in their tanks due to fish quotas .....

So, they angled their sights on us, the private boat owner .......
It's a boat, it's a hobby, where else can they go to get fuel and what the hull if they decided not to buy any fuel, the government wouldn't suffer because of it.
And so it came to pass ........ we got shugged cos we can (only just at times) afford to continue buying fuel marked as "DUTY NOT PAID" due to red dye, although we have paid duty on it (or at least 60% of it until the axe finally comes down and the 60/40 is removed and replaced by 100).

My biggest bitsh about all this? , ...... standing at the pump paying for fuel dyed red classed as NON DUTY PAID but paying duty on it ...........

                      heh heh heh........love it...

tax....tax em a bit more...then tax em a bit more...consider the cost of oil...and the "situation " in the middle east

then put some "duty" on it and tax a bit more....

if it wasn't for " tax" we'd be out a lot more...

tax ? the terms "strippey jumper" and "dick terpin" spring to mind....not the price of oil

the're having us over and were daft enough to think it's the price of oil........
