If you've never had a boat before, the first step should be to do a RYA Course for boat handling and safety awareness, you would'nt want to wreck your pride and joy the first time out. Maybe go out on a boat a few times to find out if it's for you, you might spend 1000's then find you suffer from sea sickness or even just not like it. Your budget will define the type of boat you will get for the money, have a look through the ads and never buy a boat without a sea trial.
If you get a decent, reliable boat you'll love it, Good Luck with the search mate

They do the RYA Level 2 coure at Sunderland Marina, you get to handle one of the RIB'S which they have for the boat handling part, and i think they can tailor the course to suit your times, if you pop down they have leaflets about the course. The general safety part is included in the course so there would be no need to do it online.

Hi Mark, There are planning hulls and displacement hulls. Planning hulls go fast over the water which needs a larger, more expensive outboard.
A displacement hull ploughs through the water so an engine around 10hp will do you on a boat around 15/17ft. Putting a larger engine will not make it plane. It all comes down to cost sometimes. Plenty boats on ebay, but get plenty info before you buy. Take someone with you who can advise on your choice.P.B. Cod 30lb-11ozs Balcary.
