  • Tees Bay Wind Farm

This may have been covered elsewhere on the site but I am concerned about the Tees Bay Wind Farm.

It is a good thing in that it will attract fish to the area but these wind farms usually have a fishing exclusion zone around them. If we are going to have the wind farm, then we might as well be able to use it. If enough people contact the developer it might be possible to have the boat-angling communitys needs taken in to consideration.

Contact the developer through Tony Scorer at Northern Offshore Wind Ltd.
    on 0191 512 5835 or tony.scorer@edfenergy.com.

    Hiya,

It\'s only a good thing for some fish, sharks, skates & rays are highly sensitive to electrical current and as the current are carried by underwater cables, there is a good chance that the area will end up being devoid of these species.

don\'t want to be the harbringer of doom, but I don\'t think it would make any differece how many people write to the developer, Fishing will still be a no no, as is shooting on the fells near \'em. On paper, the artificial reefs that are created will be a real magnet for many species, but you won\'t get near them. Best bet if ti goes ahead would be say nowt, and just get owt there early and wait till you are told to move on. Controvertial, but no more than siting the turbines in the first place. the developers biggest concerns will be damage to the under water cables that run between turbines and to the shore. Apart from carry high voltage, theres a lot of cables that control how the equipment works. One of the first of shore windfarms in Denmark didn\'t enforce an exclusion zone and it wasn\'t long before boats anchoring in vicinity started to damage the cables, and hooks snagging the amoured cables began to pierce the outer coating, allow water in and the eventual breakdown of the cable. I\'ve got a great clipping somewhere about this farm. One of the cables carrying control signals was damaged, which affect the turbines abaility to trim the pitch of the rotors as the wind increased. Along came a good blow and the turbine spun out of control until it lost a blade. The scary bit was that the blade landed on the shore three quarters of a kilometer away!
