  • Tohatsu 50hp Tilt/Trim Issue

    Morning lads,

and this weeks boat issue is.....

....power tilt and trim - or lack thereof I should say!

After striping off and getting covered in gods knows how many months worth of gunge in the sump at the bottom of the boat, I managed to fix my bilge pump - braid and bits of line being the cause, fortunately it's back in working order now.

The latest problem is that the engine won't trim at all. It just makes a very high pitched wining grating sound which doesn't sound healthy at all! I'm not sure if it needs a top up of hydraulic oil or if it's something more serious.

If anyone has any ideas or experience of this problem and help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I think these problems are why i don't want me own boat.
Good luck in fixing your new problem and i hope its not an expensive one.

Either the tilt bar is siezed, or there's air in the system, and probably needs bleeding and toping up.
Have a look on youtube how to do it.
There may be a nut that can be turned a quater or so, which takes off the hydrolic pressure so you can manually tilt the engine to see if it is siezed or not.
