Bilge Pump Help

Afternoon lads,
Whilst cleaning the boat the weekend my bilge pump came to a slow stop and wouldn't work thereafter. The same thing happened a while ago but then it starter working again?

I didn't have the engine running while it was on, so is it the case that the battery didn't have quite enough power to keep it pumping without the boost from the engine?

Or am I just kidding myself and it's actually knackered!? I presume it doesn't matter but the engine is a 50hp Tohatsu on an Alaska 500...

Any help appreciated.

If a was you a would be buying a new one not that dear you never no you might need it in an emergency and if its playing up that could spell disaster or if its just a flat battery get a second battery for yr pump with a solor panel charger to keep it topped up and you you can get a switch that lets you charge both batteries when engines running thats what ive got on mine..link below is a similar one to mine for charging both hope this helps http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381563346908

Maybe the impeller is dirty or partly blocked by some fishing line (braid is very bad at that!!)

Try opening and cleaning the bilge pump

We had a similar problem on my mates boat, just took it off and give it a good clean in soapy water. It was full of gunge. Might be worth looking out for a manual pump as back up if you haven't already got one.

some bilge pump don't start until there is a certain amount of water in sump, easy to test by putting more water in, would also recommend a good clean
