I heard that someone was out and had a fire on their boat and had to abandon ship. They got picked up a short while later because luckily the guy managed to grab a distress beacon (or whatever they are called), and activated it. Very fortunate if true, but this is just what I heard, might be something completely unrelated.

Makes me think that one of these emergency transmitter things would be a worthy purchase. What would be the last thing you grabbed when going overboard? (heaven forbid).... probably my phone or handheld radio, but its not much use when waterlogged! Food for thought!

    All the best.

The emergency transmitters (EPIRB's) are a very handy thing to have nee matter what size boat you have!!
If anyone is interested in purchasing one there is a local company in cramlington who supply them

How much are they, generally speaking? And are they 'one use only' or can they be re-used (i.e. if you accidently triggered it).

Sorry for all the questions, I could google it but Im at work so Im trying to be sneaky!

        Cheers.

I'll get back to you on the prices.if they are accidentally triggered then the best bet is to send it back to manufacturer to check it over.they can be used time and time again but will need to be serviced and possibly a battery change when its needed. The batteries last 4-5 years depending on what range of epirb is purcased!!
Any other questions then please just ask!!

Got 2 Questions 1: Whats the boat fishing going to be like this year?
2: What will the weather be like offshore this year?
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught

The boat on fire incident was on the news, it was in Australia, the rescue helicopter found them in 45 minutes thanks to the epirb .

I wouldn't fancy 45 minutes in the sea off Amble just now

Haha, Australia? Must have been a terrible drift at sea that day! Oh well, it was me grandad who was telling me yesterday and he made it sound like it was local! Still, an interesting story non-the-less!

Maybe he was.just trying to put me off boating. I already get plenty of that from the family about my motorbike, lets hope it doesnt start with boats too! :s

                  All the best.
