Well with the year drawing to a close, I thought it might be interesting to hear what is people's favourite charter boat/Skipper that you fished with this year and why?
As it is only a subjective opinion please don't put up negative posts, as that wouldn't be fair.
Too start it off, here are our favourites.
We have fished Amble, Bridlington, Eyemouth, Scarborough, Tyne and Whitby this year, often going out on more than one boat at some of the ports.
As Lynn and I were pretty much complete novices when we started, it was important that the Skippers were patient and helpful!!
Whitby at Xmas was our first trip, going out with Paul on Trot On. As I said, being novices, we were severely under tackled with 8oz weights and 20lb line. Couldn't even hit the bottom!
Paul came to the rescue (thank you!) with 50lb leader and 1lb weights and we had an amazing day with both of us boating double figure Pollack and also Cod to 10lbs. Of course Lynn had the biggest fish of the day, a Pollack of 13.5lbs!! What a first trip!!
We had a lovely trip out of Amble at Easter with Jeff and Duncan on Warlord. Fantastic blokes and very helpful with local advice on baits etc. We also must mention the lovely lady at Amble tackle shop. Early in the season, but we still managed a few decent Cod. Had a great laugh onboard and Lynn totally out fished me .........again!!
Next at Easter was with Tony on Mistress out of the Tyne. Beautiful fast boat and Tony wasn't afraid to go well offshore and use the boat's power. Plenty of good chat and advice from Tony,(what a lovely guy), a good bag of Cod...........plus I managed to get two more fish than Lynn for once, so that was great !
Later in the year it was back to Whitby and two trips with Jim and Dave on Charisma. Brilliant guys, couldn't do enough for you, great advice, gave us tackle to try and Dave filleted the fish on the way back to port! Not the fastest boat, but certainly the cheapest. On the first trip we had so many cod that we started returning fish in the afternoon. The second trip saw me catch my first Ling. Lynn won the first trip, the second an honourable draw.
So she has bragging rights for the year.........unfortunately!
Will definitely be fishing all those boats again next year and have also booked, Shy Torque out of Whitby and North Star out of Hartlepool.
So which was our absolute favourite?
Well with the shouts of cop-out ringing in our ears, I'm going to say, we can't choose between them, indeed even Lynn and I didn't agree on the best, which had more do do with what we caught than anything else, I suspect!
As I said it's all subjective.
What we can do is highly recommend all of them to you. Try them next year if you can, you won't be disappointed.
Best wishes for the festive season and we would be interested in hearing your charter boat favourites.
