  • Reel Repairs

Hi all, anyone regularly looking at the forum may remember that I had a problem about a year ago getting an ABU 9000 reel repaired.

I eventually found a guy who goes by the name Tackleman John who has a website for repair and sales of reels Home Page.

I sent him the reel (origional picture attached, with updated image) together with another Shakespear Salt reel which had stripped gears in a tangle with a wreck. Parts werent available for the ABU so he made a new cam himself !!!

I was gobsmacked to get both reels back, fully repaired and serviced for £20.
I felt so grateful I sent £30 as it seemed far too cheap for the work involved.

In future he is certainly my first call in relation to tackle problems (fishing I mean) and the info may be of some use to others especially if you can't face doing your own maintenance.

    cheers........Mick

No do it yourself with this guy !

I'm not sure what you mean by 'have to do it yourself' ?
I sent the reels off in pieces and they came back repaired and serviced with an additional, unreplaceable piece, which he manufactured himself.

It may be that he has only recently started this service but if you look at his guestbook entries they are a glowing testament to the service he provides.

Definately not a do it yourself situation !!!!

                cheers......Mick
