yup its that old chestnut, but I\'ve started something.....

basically just want folks to have a look and see if that is enough info or wether more is needed(if so then what!)

I\'m adding a few myself at the mo, from my lists, collected from hundreds of dive sites and my own gps

it secured so only those that have a password will get to it so it won\'t be broadcast unecessarily. but for now, or the next few days at least, cos once I start adding loads I\'m gonna change the password

thought about an extra field for folks to rate the wreck, is that worthwhile.

at the mo its bare bones while I get the data in. Ultimately I\'m hoping its gonna be quite snazzy. The UKHO is one of my clients so I\'ve gotten hold of vector charts for the area it covers and the java needed plot the marks onto that vector file. If I can get it to work, the end goal is a downloadable chart with all the marks on that is compatible with c-chart, so should be uploadable to garmin gps among others

Thats ideal mark , just the job . I take it you pulled them from Ron Youngs books ? If you need any more give me a shout , we have all of them on a list but not with the details .

I\'ve got ron youngs books, and once again thanks (unoffically) to friends in the UKHO a copy of the admiralty list as well!

also got dozens of dive sites bookmarked over the alst few years so theres tons in them as well.

it\'ll take a while, but I reckon I must be able to put a thousand wrecks off the North Sea coast

got a few that I haven\'t found refernences to as well so they may just big lumps of reef/rock

going to leave the access as it is for a week or so to let folks have shufty then change it. So if stops working PM for access, as I\'ll not be publishing it anywhere.

we had this discussion about wreck database a while ago if memory serves me right, my feeling is the same now as it was then, say nowt and keep them to ourselves, and friends we make on the board who we get to know well over time.
i know the information is available to all on charts and books if they want to look for it, thats fine, let the unknowns do just that, it is bad enough when you get followed to a wreck and they take the position, then before you know it every man and his dog are there

Hear speaketh possibly the worst sailor in the north east (and Cannock) but someone deeply interested in the history of the area and the wrecks around the coast. I would be just as impressed with a database that had links to info on the numerous wrecks out there without putting the coordinates on. That would give both my group (more interested in the wrecks than the fish) and your group (vice versa) a start without giving the game away.

have you actually been to these wrecks, just had a look at my lists can not find any other than the Ferryhill that correspond with what I have.

the whole point was that it wouldn\'t be open to all, just the select few who are genuine on here and ask for an invite,

the ones I hoyed up so far bar about 3, are all one I have been to in the last 2 years, alan, with other people or on my own. a few marks I discovered accidentally along the lines of what the hells that down there as I went over the top and then researched when I got back, others come from books charts and other web sites, some sites not only have the co-ords, but detailed sea bed plans and photos as well.

Just wondered marc, mind quite a few wrecks i have not bothered writing down, being to close to shore or in to shallow water to be of any use these days for fishing. As for taking co ordinates off a chart, the thickness of a pencil line on a chart is about 100 yards. Als if you are even a part of a degree off at the start when taking a lat or long line when you are a couple of mile off you is way out. tried it myself.
