  • fishing marks from the tyne area

    Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying a small 18ft boat moored on the tyne.

I normally fish up North from Amble when I've been out on chartered trips so have no experience of the Tyne and the surrounding areas.

Can anyone tell me some good spots to go to? GPS points would be great or where I can get them.

The boat is just a little chugger so I think I'd be mainly fishing in the tyne or inshore out of it.

I'm not wanting to fill the boat up or anything but it would be nice to bring a couple back the first time I go out.

    Cheers

there are plenty ov wrecks within the three mile mark out ov shields piers you also have hard ground from tynemouth to st mary,s so you dont need to go far for good fishing try library for book i think its called wrecks off north east england they give coordinates ov all wrecks worth visiting

As Gary rightly said there is a lot of hard ground between the tyne and St Marys. Try about 1-1.5 miles out from cullercoats and around that area, watch the sounder and see how the bottom is full of features, look for deep depressions or holes in the seabed and try to drift over them a couple of times ......
Use hokkais baited with rag and or squid ...... good luck ...

          hi mate,
Codling will be the main quarry all through the winter although you may find a few pouting (scotchies) and whiting around with a possible wrasse on the rough ground.
Not a lot going during december to april but always a chance of a couple so well worth a go if the weather is good.

Hi shalbert, Welcome to NESA. Codling/cod are the main quarry around this area. If you want to stand a good chance of catching a couple of fish on your maiden voyage, I would personally head north out the Tyne and head towards St, Mary,s lighthouse, where you will see a yellow large buoy moored about a 1000 mtrs from the shore. If the tides are quite strong, put an anchor out while the tide is flowing, use a setup of a couple of flowing traces baited with lug, or rag, or peeler crab and you will almost certainly be successful. I have fished this area for the last 35 years and had plenty of memorable days with fish into double figures. If the winds are light and the tide slack, then drift again with bait, or baited hokies, but have a few rigs made up as you can loose a few, good luck.
