Well once again the lads who fished aboard sea-otter 2 during this years competition had some cracking fish after the last two years of winning the compettion this year it was john wilcock on richard wards shy-torque who won the day a very well done to them both .
For the first week of the competition i had our main sponsor of the competition aboard glenn stocks and his party and what a week they had the lads just love to fish with shads they had one hell of a week on the cod many fish lurcking round the double figure mark but the lads couldnt quite magic that big one gary jones did manage a good cod of 13lb 8oz which took the lead in the cod section the same lads had many cod round the 8-9lb mark they had a bumper day out on the 20 mile.
Gary jones from barnsley with his 13lb cod
Glenn and the lads with some of there haul
Martin peel from peterlee on day 9 managed a nice cod of over 11lb a very well done to martin but it was on day 10 that andrew fusco from halifax who after he kept saying to me all day that today a big cod would end up on his line and by gum he was right andrew manged this lovelly cod of 17lb 12oz he was over the moon andrew had hurt his arm the day before so it was his buddy who held the fish up for the camera a cracking cod it fell to a full squid.
Andrews buddy holding his cod a lovelly fish weighing 17lb 12oz this fish went on to be the biggist cod in the competition
As the compettion went on we on sea-otter 2 kept in the daily prizes but it wasnt till the 18th day that william anderson from preston manged a good ling just going over 16lb the lads on the boat swept the board that day winning the daily prizes between them with 3 fish all in double figures william with his 16lb ling and mick littlewood who managed a cracking cod going over 12lb plus and another one of the preston lads peter wardley with a ling just over 13lb the lads had a belter of a day .
William with his 16lb ling
Mick littlewood from whitby with his 12lb cod.
Day 19 wayne holmes got the £50 daily with a ling over 14lb the lads kept in the prizes till the very end but it was the last day aboard sea -otter that things hotted up to say we were unlucky to not land a fish over 20lb would be just an understatment but 2 cracking fish were lost mick littlewood was on board again for the last day and poor mick got one hell of a fish on which took his shad his fladden rod was going crazy i kept saying this is a big fish mick the wreck i was fishing holds big fish infact we took the 26lb ling of it which won this festival last year but i have had many big cod also from this wreck and by the way micks rod was lungeing to me it was a cod he had connected to, i was there with the gaff waiting for the fish to come into sight when the fish took a massive dive the next minuite it was off the hook when micks tackle came to surface his storm shad hook was litterallly straight i think i was more gutted than what mick was to me it was 20lb plus fish but if its not in the boat it doesnt count.
I decide to move onto the next wreck as soon as the lads dropped down most were into fish we had another 2 or 3 passes over the wreck then all of sudden one of the lads was shouting he had hooked a big fish ,it was one of 2 young whitby lads dans mates dan works in whitby angling i could see he had hooked into some thing big as his rod was bouncing up and down like nobodys buisness infact it hit the gunell of boat twice the lad was very excited i said just take your time this fish could put right up there .
The lad was doing the right thing winding the fish slow keeping good contact no pumping just steady winding i could see by his face he hooked something special everybody was excited again the gaff was at the ready the lad got the fish a good 2/3rds of the way up when all of sudden his line started to peel of his reel i thought no i cant believe it not a seal sure enough a seal had took fish the seal was takeing line it was going of his reel at speed the seal surfaced a 100 mtrs away from boat all you could see was this seal fighting with this big fish the lad was gutted we had lost one big fish on the wreck previous but this to happen on the next wreck was extremley unlucky to say the least i felt for the lads one of fish could have been the overall winner but once again if its not in boat it dont count.
But i had one trick left up my sleve for slack water it was my intentions to go back the previous wreck as i said the year before we took a 26lb ling off it to win the festival i said to the lads patience is what its all about those big ling will sit there and wont take you have to be there at the right stage of the tide often just either side of the slack is big ling time the last ten munuites of the day it was that man again with biggist cod in the competition andrew fusco who got the best fish of the day with a ling 18lb 6oz andrew was in line for a nice payout indeed for his 2 days fishing on sea-otter 2 andrew picked up £500 for biggist cod a special prize £500 for 3rd biggist fish overall and £250 for the 4th biggist fish overall his winning came to £1300 with his daily prizes he was over the moon plus he also had tackle prizes to pick up was well andrew is a regualr on sea-otter 2 and it was great for him to do so well well done andrew during the compettion we did manage to win most daily prizes again this year also i must say a very well done to all the lads who fished with me during the competition.
