My birthday is coming up, so with the money i get i'm going to get a new rod and reel.
Quite fancy a Fladen Maxximus solid carbon 20lb - 60lb rod with a TLD 15 reel.
I know a few on here use the tld's, what about the rods.
Any thoughts?
You must have heard about the Tuna getting caught off our coast . I've got 4 rods on my boat for rough and wrecking, the heaviest is 20lb class and never gets used, It's much more fun with light gear.
I have the fladen max solid carbon (green one and me dad has red one)
They are rated around the same as you suggested, but in reality are around 12-20 lb class as they are so thin and have a good action.
Good fun with 3-4 lb codling but still handle the doubles well.
You'll be supprised how thin they are but still able to handle a 12 oz lead no probs.
The red one is very similar to the sonic sk4 12-20 lb class I was looking at, or was it a 6-12 lb, can't remember.
Only gripe is I get a little corrosion on the guides at the end of the season but it mostly comes off with an oily rag.
Have just chipped the tip ring but it's been lugged all over and shoved in and out of the car for 2-3 yrs, so my fault no doubt.
Also fish it with a tld 15 sometimes and it's a good combo altho I sometime use my Abu 7000 to be a bit lighter.
A pic of my ugly mug with the two rods to see the thickness, the green ones a 20-50 lb and the red ones 20-40 lb class.
Probably more like 12-20lb and 6-12 lb in reallity.
Just out of shot both of them probably have Tld 15's on.
Hi Chris, ive got the one piece 20/60 with the cork butt and charter special reel, love them both, tacklebargains got the rods in for £50ish
Thats the same one i've seen, someone was using one on sunday while i was out.
it says 20/60lb, but looks only around 12 - 20lb like has been said. Looks like you'll get plenty of sport from it.

Cheers codfather, they look the business.
how much do the cost roughly, are the more expensive than the one i mentioned in the previous post?
Think Tony (the great wallsendo) recently bought the same rod your on about, he'll probably see this and give you some feedback.
Would guess that it'll be a good rod tho not a bad price either.
I’ve got a 20~60lb maxximus, the one piece version and also some of the lighter ones. First thing to say is that they are MUCH lighter (flexible, soft, etc) than other rods with similar or even lighter ratings. The look more like a spinning rod than a boat rod. Mine has taken some abuse without breaking yet so although they are light they are still tough. I’ve little idea what they’re like for hauling up big fish though
The TLD 15 is a great reel, as is the equivalent Penn320LD, which comes with a level wind if you’re looking for that. Both reels are well suited to fishing round here.
Whichever one you chose, fill it with braid, it’s a leap forwards compared with nylon.

Think thats the one i'm going to go for.
Already fish with braid, like you say its leaps foward and you feel everything.
