I remember (and I think theres still a few on here who will also remember) ....... about 5 or 6 years ago we had one of our impromptu NESA Fun Boat competitions, there was only 3 or 4 boats in the comp and we used to go off and all fish the same wreck for a while and then move on to another one so it was really small time but fun kinda keeping together ......
We were several miles out and got caught in a storm that came from no where. Full works crashing thunder and bright lightening ..... I remember everyones rods were "Buzzing" just prior to a strike ..... what a frightening situation ...
We all ended up rods flat on deck (and bodies )
If I remember rightly it was so wet that one of my crew (AndyW) decided to keep some clothes dry to go home in ... so he stripped off down to the essentials with a view of well ... I`'m getting wet anyway ... great days.

Know what you mean about the buzz on the rods etc: Norman. Many years ago, Ken Robinson and me were out from Seahouses about a mile, when there was this hissing crackling sound which was coming from the radio ariel and our fishing rods getting louder and louder, everything was crackling, then an almighty flash of lightning followed instantly by a bang of thunder. You have never seen anyone move as fast as we both dived into the cuddy. The land disappeared from view as the heavens opened with torrential rain followed by more lightning and thunder. It lasted about half an hour, then cleared up as quick as it started. Talk about scary.

Yes , I've had the "pleasure" , of a lightening strike directly above my boat , great adrenalin rush , but I can think of better ways to get the adrenalin coursing , mine is even more memorable in that I had just caught what is still my pb cod at 14.3 lbs , it's the smell that gets me when you are that close to a lightening strike , like a sulphery burning smell in the air , exciting , but bloody scary at the time

Been fishing a kayak comp at runswick bay today the thunder started late in the afternoon and my 2 carbon rods started buzzing. That was me Bricking it and paddling full pelt for cover
