  • Egypt....fishing trips?

    Hi.

I have booked up for a 2 week hol in Egypt (Sharm l Sheikh), on September 28th this year, and was hoping to get out for a fishing trip (or two if I can persuade her! ).

I was just wondering if anyone on here had ever been there and went out on a fishing trip before? May sound like a perculiar question, but when I've been searching around on the net I can't seem to find any actual fishing trips you can go on. Plenty of snorkelling, diving etc. (which I plan to do, of course!), but no actual boat fishing trips.

Any advice greatly welcomed! Also, what fish could I hope to catch? Knowing my luck though for the whole two weeks they'll have strong Northerlies! haha!

    Cheers.

I never saw anyone fishing when i was there 3 years ago, but i went snorkelling and it was amazing, don't know about names of fish but there were hundreds of different coloured fish, so you should be able to catch them.
Take 2 lug and a bag of rag with you, you'll bag up...

Thanks for the link! Sounds like it is a good place for fishing then, but when I tried clicking the link for Sharm its a dead link. Doh! I bet there's some interesting beasts in there though. And I bet the Nile would be even more interesting again, although the fish would probably catch you!!

Haha, I was hoping I could just use some bread to catch the fish! Isn't that what you do on holiday? Not sure I'd want to pack some Lug & Rag in my case mind. Maybe in the gf's case?

Hmmm.... wonder if I could smuggle some Egyption Peelers back home?..

Sharm l sheikh - That's the place that had the fatal shark attacks.

So there's one species you could after, just make sure you are strapped into and onto the boat (securely)
          Here fishy, fishy!

been looking around a bit and it appears that fishing is definately banned due to it being a national park, closest places looks like Hurghada 2 hours by ferry or Eltor 1 hours drive....

              Hi Mate

I went to sharm two years ago and tourist are not allowed to fish, you have to ask the government in egypt if you can fish and this can take upto 10 days for a discission and this is normally NO.

good luck mate, the rules may have been changed but i doubt it.

oh well, guess its a no then! *sniff *sob I suppose its a good thing really to preserve the fish & coral & what not. Well, never mind I think just the snorkelling & scuba diving will be amazing anyways by the sounds of it! I've done it before in the Dominican but hear its something else in Egypt. It'll be strange swimming around with the same fish I have in my marine fish tank at home! haha!

                Thanks for all your replies.

                All the best.

                Steve.

Shame the fishing looks to be a non starter. Catch some on film if you can, I for one would love to see them. Not expecting shark pics though

No you can't I was there last year.it's a massive national park, even the locals aren't allowed, they go nuts if you feed the fish aswell.
I didn't see any sharks but have done in Hawaii which has loads of them about with very little trouble considering there's thousands of people in the water all day long.
Ive caught grey reef shark and seen a big tiger shark caught 0.6 mile off waikikki beach.
