Fish Finder

I have just bought my first ever firbre glass fishing boat so i am new to the boat fishing scene. Could someone tell me or explain how to fit a fish finder. Its the sonar bit i am worry about where and how do i fit this.

Hi Gordon, Does the unit have a built in Ariel, or an external one. If it's external, any position inside a cabin as long as it's within easy reach and viewing angle will suffice. If it has an internal Ariel, then location is a bit more critical as best reception is with a clear view to the sky, so if it is 100% waterproof an outside of cabin location will be best.
Sonar. If you have a transom mount transducer, the closer to the centre keel gets the least bubbles whilst on the move, but best about 12 inches away from the propeller, with the bottom of the transducer about quarter of an inch below the bottom of the boat where its fixed.
If it has a shoot through hull transducer, again somewhere near the centre of the boat at the rear, but only through a single layer of fibreglass, and use the proper resin. The aim is to keep away from any air bubbles under the transducer, otherwise you loose the picture for a while. Hope that's of some help. Arthur

is transducer transom mount, shoot through hull mount or through hull mount,transom mount is fitted rear of boat just below waterline normaly on a small adjustable bracket secured with screws and sikaflex,shoot through hull is fitted inside bilge in a small container stuck to bottom of boat with fiberglass or silicone filled with mineral oil or antifreezewith the top of container sealed,through hull cut a hole in the bottom of your hull and seal in with rubber seal screws and sikaflex hope this helps

not sure if it works but if you have a skimmer with your fish finder im sure you can place it in your water well at the back of the boat so you dont have to drill any holes i know a guy who uses this method and he swears by it

only if its single skin deano, which is the reason i didnt do shoot through hull, because its double skinned.
