People dont fish for them, The late Dave Brown was pioneering this a few years ago around Bridlington and he also did it further north. They are there but no one bothers as in the North East, a freezer full of fish is whats required.

as previously said nobody fishes for them, as most charter skippers at the behest of the punters want cod, cod and more cod prefereably from wrecks, skippers would, unless they know already where the bass hang out have to spend quite some time finding out where, they are there a good few years ago one local inshore commercial fisherman took two or three in the high teens not far off. Best boat caught bass I know of was one of 7lb, a few boat anglers used tpo go close in to Cambois hot water pipe and fish for them there.

I went out with Dave Brown for bass off Flamborough head Sean , we failed on that trip but Dave had 10/12 the previous week . I was gobsmacked to find out he passed away a couple of years ago , a real top block and a proper gent . We invited him and Nigel up years ago for the nesa comp .

Might give it a try close in Alan in the spring .

the cambois pipe was a cracking spot allan, seen lads on jet ski's bagging up, as was tournes, there were always boats at the outlet's. not now. I recollect a 5lb from cambois, would liked to have seen the 7ld'er.
this could turn into a summer boat bass comp.......!

I would think with bass stocks around the north east coast being spread very thin, the chances of even getting one are slim, and most people would probably give up and head for deeper water, just to get some fish in the box.
Most bass are caught in shallow water by shore anglers, so that gives you an idea how close in you probably need to be, so a kyack would be the best way to go, not having a noisy engine to spook them.

Don't ALL bass have to be returned for the first half of 2016?
              Cheers, Keith.

The engine noise does not spook them much Arthur ( look on YouTube ) , my problem would be getting tucked in close at 7.7 m long and 0.8m draft .

Might be academically a non starter as Keith points out .

                  Hi Dave

I seem to remember him telling me about a trip on your old boat, something along the lines of you will need more weight than that! Your right a top guy. He gave me tons of advice when I got my boat and also showed me many tricks with fishing that really work.

I know where there is a sand bank to try for launce so may have a go this summer myself!

bass have been around a lot longer than most anglers think, most go along with the theory that they started with Cambois hot watre outflow, my grandfather and uncles fished Cambois before the outflow, one of my uncles proven stories was a catch he and a friend made, they caught four or five bass at Cambois and had to find a fish box to carry them home, obviously the forerunners of the bass that came along with the help of the hot water improving the breeding conditions

Gill netting should also be prohibited during the closed season The current restrictions on recreational anglers should also be in place on commercial activities
