It looks like my Mercury 7.5hp is going to die on me so does anyone know where I can locally get another longshaft outboard upto about 15hp that not too expensive?

I got a 5bhp for £670 from Storra marina 17 months ago long shaft Merc, it moves my 18ft Arvor along at 5.5k out at sea and 4k going down the river against the wind and tide.

Not sure on how big your boat is etc. but we use an old 5hp Seagull Silver Century Plus as a spare engine on our boat. You can pick them up real cheap off Ebay (certainly under £200 last I checked for a long-shaft model). I wouldn't like to use it all the time (hence buying a yam 15hp!), but if you're looking for something cheap to get you out & about in the meantime then it would do the trick! Uses very little petrol too but sounds like a wasp in a jar! haha!
