Does anyone have any superstitions or rituals that they adhere to before setting out to sea
It could be something you wear, eat or do before setting off, the reason for asking is.... i've just been told that my lucky top is in the washing machine ....but not for long...
getting serious for a while....after all normal boat/fuel/battery/engine/tackle/weather/tide/ double checks before we leave
on the way back to hartlepool during the summer weeks i have a slight ocd disorder that makes me watch for anyone wearing a tracksuit and drinking lager from a can fishing for "maccy" on the piers of hartlepool i cannot help myself from displaying prominently the largest fish i have on board...
oh....and i wear my bear grylls trousers [sunny days only]
for me its not so much what i do or dont do i had a couple og mates that went fishing, very close to both of them, both gone long before their time but for sure some point between waking up and boarding the boat i am going to fish on they will pass thru my mind if i have a good day they get the credit if i have a bad day they get a good rollicking
When I was younger , like about a million years ago , I used to travel up to scotland every weekend to fish for pike , you might have noticed that very early in the morning the crows are out scavaging road kills , they never seem to be the road kills though , anyway I reckoned if I could turn one of these scavanging crows into a road kill I would catch a 20
Never did catch that 20 , never hit a crow either , put a pheasant through the foglamps at 70mph one morning though , didn't catch a 20 that day either , just a substantial repair bill (I didn't hit it on purpose by the way )
I don't have any superstitions these days other than I'm a bit reluctant to hit anything on the road early doors on the way to the boat , karma and all that
My uncle was like that,(long gone now)if he seen a magpie on his way fishing especially when going on a boat he would travel miles to see another,if he didnt see one he didnt go,guess who looks now lol.
